Chief Technology Officer

Our client is an established, growing group based in Osaka, Japan, investing in technology, AI and product capability as a core part of its strategy. It is seeking a senior technology executive to partner with the CEO and Board on direction, investment and delivery.

As Chief Technology Officer, you will be the group's most senior technology leader, translating business strategy into product direction, architecture, AI and data capability, and a high-performing engineering organisation. The role carries genuine influence over technology investment and timing.

• Set the technology roadmap and target architecture, ensuring current decisions support future scale
• Take ambiguous business objectives through requirements, design, launch and scale, and establish a repeatable delivery model
• Lead AI strategy and productisation, including model selection, evaluation, safety and cost management
• Establish data architecture, security, privacy, resilience and incident response standards
• Govern intellectual property, open source licensing and third-party technology risk
• Make clear build, buy, integrate or partner decisions grounded in capability, speed, risk and cost
• Manage technology economics, including cloud, AI and vendor spend and unit cost metrics
• Build and lead product, engineering, AI, data, infrastructure and security teams
• Provide the CEO and Board with independent advice on feasibility, risk, budget and readiness to scale

You will be a hands-on technology leader who combines deep architecture and AI judgement with commercial understanding, and who can point to products and platforms you have personally built and scaled.

• Substantial experience across software, internet, AI or computer science, including at least five years of technical or engineering leadership
• Delivery of large-scale systems or platforms, including at least one product built from the ground up
• Fluency in a modern programming language and the ability to review production code
• Deep working knowledge of large language models, retrieval, AI agents, evaluation and AI cost management
• Proven ability to recruit, structure and lead an engineering organisation
• Strong governance of security, privacy, reliability and technology cost
• A confident, independent adviser to a CEO and Board
• Experience in AI, SaaS or large-scale platforms, prior CTO or VP Engineering responsibility and professional English are highly regarded

• AUD $165,000 total package
• Permanent full-time role reporting to the CEO and Board
• Career pathway to Group CTO
• Five-day working week with approximately 120 days off per year, including public holidays and seasonal leave
