Financial Accountant (6 Month Contract)

Our client is a well-established global manufacturing group with a long history of engineering excellence and a strong presence across Australia and New Zealand. Their Western Sydney finance team operates within a well-governed, listed environment where accuracy, sound controls and genuine collaboration with the wider business are highly valued.
This is a 6-month contract; working holiday visa holders considered. As Financial Accountant, you will take ownership of a broad financial accounting portfolio, ensuring reporting is accurate, compliant and delivered on time, while acting as a trusted finance partner to stakeholders across the organisation.
- Own journal preparation and posting, and drive a timely, accurate month-end close.
- Deliver balance sheet reconciliations, including intricate transit, intercompany and suspense accounts, and clear any open items with the relevant business teams.
- Safeguard the integrity and completeness of the general ledger.
- Gather, validate and interpret financial data to inform management reporting and financial statement preparation.
- Support statutory accounts and external reporting, ensuring alignment with accounting standards and SOX control requirements.
- Prepare control evidence and manage internal and external audit requests, engaging directly with auditors and business stakeholders.
- Build practical Excel tools and models that make routine finance processes faster and more reliable.
- Act as a go-to resource on finance systems and processes, and partner with teams across the business.
You will be a technically strong accountant who enjoys getting to the bottom of complex balances and can hit the ground running in a short-term engagement. Big 4 or chartered training combined with commercial exposure would be well regarded.
- Around three to six years of hands-on financial accounting experience, gained in industry, audit or a combination of both.
- CA, CPA, ACA or ACCA qualified, or well progressed towards qualification.
- Demonstrated strength in reconciliations, month-end processes and technical accounting.
- Exposure to statutory reporting, audit engagement and internal control frameworks, with SOX experience well regarded.
- Advanced Excel capability and a practical, improvement-focused mindset.
- Clear, confident communication and the ability to manage priorities independently with minimal supervision.
